Global Active Limited in Singapore, the sole franchisee for GNC, has voluntary recalled and stopped the sale of Hydroxycut products from its outlets.
The weight loss and energy-boosting Hydroxycut supplements are recalled in the US due to cumulative reports of serious adverse reactions there.
Responding to 938LIVE's queries, Global Active says it was informed yesterday morning the by GNC in the US as well as by Iovate Health Sciences, the brand owner of Hydroxycut.
Its group CEO, Cynthia Poa, says the product recall may cause the customers some disappointment, but she hopes that they will understand the good intention of risk prevention.
Hydroxycut product has been a favourite amongst weight watchers and gym-goers for helping them to reduce body fat.
Ms Cynthia says no reports of adverse reactions have been received so far in relation to the consumption of Hydroxycut products.
She admits that there had been a few customers who feedback that they experienced faster heartbeats or mild giddiness.
But these reactions disappeared upon their discontinuation of intake and symptoms may be linked to their sensitivity to caffeine.
She adds that she respects the customers’ decision to discontinue their intake, and will refund them if they wish to do so.
The US Food and Drug Administration has received 23 reports of
serious adverse reactions affecting the liver including one death due
to liver failure.
Singapore's Health Sciences Authority or HSA has warned consumers who
have been taking Hydroxycut products to stop taking them immediately
and to discard them.
If they experience any adverse reactions or feel unwell, they should seek medical advice.
In an email reply to 938LIVE yesterday, HSA said it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
