Survey shows only 40% deem hygiene level in public toilets acceptable

SINGAPORE : Only 40 per cent of Singaporeans think that the
hygiene level in public toilets are acceptable, according to a survey.
The Restroom Association interviewed 50 people on their views on
Singapore's public toilets this year and found an 8 per cent decrease
in the number of people blaming cleaners on the state of the toilets.
Instead, the association said eight out of 10 Singaporeans feel
they are responsible for keeping the toilets clean, but few actually do
that.
Toilets with no toilet paper and wet floors are a common sight at some public toilets.
The National Environmental Agency has recently launched the toilet
OK campaign to encourage Singaporeans to observe good personal and
environmental hygiene. The association welcomes this move but feels
that the campaign will be short-lived.
70 per cent of Singapore's primary and secondary school students
have been involved in the association's education programmes on keeping
public toilets clean.
The association believes it is vital for students to be aware about
cleanliness in toilets, and it hopes that parents will team up with
schools to help cultivate this habit.
