US fast food giant McDonald's is apparently hoping to offer PhDs.
It has already received approval to award its own nationally recognised qualifications in Britain.
The company says it wants to award qualifications equivalent to university degrees, and hopes to eventually offer PhDs.
But first, the company wants to perfect its current training regimen,
which includes courses in shift management that are equivalent to
A-levels or high school courses.
It would then work to put together a post-graduate course.
The company has long sought to challenge the perception that it only creates low-level, poorly-paid "McJobs".
McDonald's was one of nine employers last year that received the power to award qualifications.
Britain hopes to encourage more such initiatives so that more workers will have recognised certificates to increase their employability.
