Seven businessmen face a total of more than 260 charges for running foul of the Employment Act
Charges include failure to pay their employees and for making unauthorised salary deductions.
S. Tiruchelvam who's the Managing Director of security company, King's Security and Safety Managing has more than 80 charges slapped against him.
The Manpower Ministry conducted an inspection at his company in March last year.
Its officers found that between November 2007 and March 2008, the company had allegedly deployed four security officers to work beyond 12 hours a day.
It's believed the company also permitted them to work more than 72 hours of overtime a month without the ministry's authorisation.
Swee Peng Koon, who's the Managing Director of a cleaning company, Sun City Maintenance faces similar charges.
The company also allegedly failed to provide eight employees with an extra day's salary for working on a public holiday.
Under the Employment Act, if convicted, first time offenders may be fined up to $5,000, jailed a maximum of six month or both.
