The Ministry of National Development has reaffirmed its commitment towards building a sustainable and liveable city.
A key aspect of such a vision involves ensuring that Singaporeans have a roof over their heads.
Mindful that some HDB households are affected by the current downturn, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said his ministry will continue to assist affected homeowners.
In his addendum to the President's address to Parliament on Monday, Mr Mah said longer term solutions will be worked out.
This includes advising homeowners to switch to smaller flats, increasing the supply of 2-room and 3-room flats and providing more rental flats.
Mr Mah said that MND will monitor the property and construction markets, and will adopt additional measures to support efficient functioning and stability.
Also on the cards are more leisure and recreation options for Singapore.
Mr Mah gave examples of upcoming attractions such as the Gardens by the Bay, a new River Safari at Mandai and the integrated resorts at Marina Bay and Sentosa.
Another aspect of building a liveable city involves proper long term planning.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority will be reviewing its Concept Plan this year, to ensure that sufficient land is set aside and adequate infrastructure is developed to meet the needs of a growing economy and population.
Other areas the ministry will be looking at includes adopting energy efficient technologies in buildings and maintains high food safety standards and supply resilience.
