16 arrested for drink-driving in latest ring-fencing operation
SINGAPORE : Sixteen motorists, including two women, failed the
breathalyser test during a ring-fencing operation in the wee hours of
Sunday.
Police said 14 of the 16 arrested are in their 20s and 30s.
The five-hour islandwide operation saw road blocks being set up in the
suburban areas, as well as near the night entertainment outlets.
On Sunday midnight, road blocks were set up along Buangkok East Drive, Bukit Batok Road and Bishan Road.
At 2.30am, the police also set up road blocks to form a ring fence
along Telok Blangah Road, Kampong Bahru Road and Keppel Road, near the
cluster of entertainment outlets and drinking haunts in the vicinity.
1,141 drink drivers have been caught so far this year.
Another 84 persons were also summoned for other traffic-related offences.
