King of Caldecott Hill Trusts Only Himself in Business
The King of Caldecott Hill returns onscreen once again with chips, dice and poker cards. Li Nanxing's role as a master gambler in the new Channel 8 drama series, The Ultimatum might seem familiar to many. The actor even agrees that the role is reminiscent of his role in The Unbeatables as King of Gamblers, Yanfei. Li's insight to gambling, after having acted as both a King of Gamblers and an addict, is moderation. He also shares on his views in doing business in China.
With only one or two drama involvement per year, Li spends the majority of his time these days on his business in China. Previous reports revealed that the TV star bought a S$1.4 million property when he got married in 1994, but suffered tremendous losses when he sold it for S$800,000 in 2005, after his divorce. He also fell prey to an unscrupulous business partnership, when his trusted partner cheated him. Past experiences have taught him not to be too trusting nowadays when doing business.
"Only venture into areas which you are familiar with, what you hear may not always be accurate. It's only when you are familiar with something that you would spend more time researching on it. Others may tell you that this is a window of opportunity, and it may not be open for long. But that's not the case. Opportunities will always be there; never follow blindly or be tempted by others' returns. Investments should be considered and made within one's own means; loans may turn out to be a bigger liability, which makes it an unwise decision."
After three long years, the King and Queen of Caldecott Hill reunite once again for the in Channel 8's drama event of the year. Li understands that viewers may find his portrayal in both The Ultimatum and The Unbeatables to be similar as the character in both shows are King of Gamblers.
"The similarities are most evident in the gambling scenes, with all the chips, dice, and poker cards. The persona, the looks, and the moves, are all very distinctive for a King of Gamblers."
Zoe Tay shares on working with Li again, "I noticed a significant change in him. Maybe it has to do with his recent lifestyle and habits. He is much more dedicated now, happier at work, jokes a lot, and has more opinions to share. He used to just sit quietly by himself and doesn't talk much. Now, he has gotten more cheerful."
Four years after his divorce with actress Yang Libing, Li shares that he has no plans for a new family.
