The Singapore Medical Council has taken two general practitioners to task for professional misconduct.
Dr Yip Chee Wei, who practices at the Yip Family Clinic, located at Blk 716 Yishun Street 71, was suspended for six months and fined $5,000.
He pleaded guilty to 15 charges of professional misconduct.
Eight of them were related to dispensing hypnotic drugs and cough mixtures containing codeine.
The disciplinary committee was of the view that they are two types of common medication that were abused by patients.
Dr Yip, who was also censured, has voluntarily closed down his practice.
The second GP, De Lee Geok Hwa, practises as a locum in various clinics in Singapore.
She pleaded guilty to one charge of professional misconduct.
She had certified to the Controller of Work Permits in a medical report that she had conducted tests, including pregnancy screening on her foreign domestic worker, when she didn't.
Dr Lee was fined $3,000 and censured.
