A couple found guilty last month of distributing seditious and objectionable publications was sentenced to eight weeks' imprisonment each.
SingTel technical officer Ong Kian Cheong, 50, and his wife, UBS associate director Dorothy Chan Hien Leng, 46, each faced two charges of distributing seditious publications, and one each of distributing an objectionable publication and possession of seditious tracts.
A district court ruled that the tracts the pair had mailed to random people - including three Muslims - were "not only offensive for religious content but also have a tendency to promote feelings of ill-will or hostility between different races or classes of the population".
By sending seditious and offensive tracts to Muslims, District Judge Roy Neighbour said Ong and Chan clearly intended to "convince the Muslim reader to convert to Christianity".
