Police say they have detected a new variation of phone scams.
These involve extortion calls being made to business offices.
The culprit would threaten to use firearms or explosives to disrupt business operations or harm the victim himself.
The victims might also be warned that their family members would be harmed or kidnapped.
Culprits have also been known to claim that they need money to help the victim's friend or associate flee the country after committing a murder.
In such situations, the public is advised not to give out their personal details and to call the police immediately at 1800-255-0000.
