Woman Charged for Assuming Liability for Another's Traffic Offence
An associate director of a realty company was charged in court today with assuming criminal liability for another woman's traffic offence.
33 year old Leung Man Kwan from HSR International Realtors allegedly took the rap after one Evangeline Tay ran a red traffic light while driving on the 22nd of January last year.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau or CPIB said the incident took place at the junction of Lornie and Sime Roads at around 10pm that night.
Miss Tay was driving her friend's silver Nissan Cefiro at that time.
Shortly after committing the traffic offence, Ms Tay is believed to have approached one Kelvin Choo to find a person to take the rap on her behalf.
Ms Tay allegedly said she was willing to pay the scapegoat a sum of 1,000 dollars to do so.
It's believed Mr Choo made the offer to Leung, who agreed to take the blame as she was facing some financial difficulties at the time.
Ms Tay then allegedly handed over Leung's particulars to the owner of the car after receiving them from Mr Choo in mid-February last year.
The owner in turn submitted Leung's details to the Traffic Police.
Leung allegedly received her payment of 1,000 dollars after this.
She is now out on a 5,000 dollar bail.
If convicted, she could be jailed up to seven years, fined or both.
The pre-trial conference for the case will start on the 23rd of July.
