MOE surpasses recruitment target of 3,000 teachers
SINGAPORE: At half time in June, the Education Ministry has
already surpassed its annual target of recruiting 3,000 teachers this
year.
Speaking at the National Institute of Education's teachers'
investiture on Monday, Education Minister Ng Eng Hen assured that
although the ministry has stepped up hiring, it has also continued to
be rigorous in selecting teachers and educators.
He said this is to ensure that only those with passion, aptitude and commitment towards teaching are selected.
Besides recruiting good teachers, Dr Ng added that the ministry
also needs to continually develop its existing pool of educators, so
they are kept abreast of the latest in education practices.
The Education Ministry has also offered post-graduate scholarships
to 51 education officers to pursue their Masters degrees or PhDs here,
and abroad.
In all, 1,893 newly qualified teachers will receive their diplomas over the next three days.

It is good that they can pick the best out of what they have.
But when times are good, can they keep them? I doubt so. Same goes for all of the other civil servants.
many teachers left teaching, hence the high recruitment numbers.
i think many see teaching as a iron rice bowl, and pays decently to at least tide over this recession
if not why MOE need to recruit so many teachers every year. Just as there are many coming in, there are also many going out.
i still remember my school volleyball coach/teacher got sacked cause of asking a guy to take down his pants and see his under wear LOL![]()
