
FORMER MediaCorp actor Lin Yisheng was charged in court with three counts of cheating on Friday in connection with a fund-raising celebrity soccer game he organised two years ago.
The 44-year-old allegedly induced Mr Sim Chin Song to transmit $50,000 to the account of his company, Celebrities Holdings, after making the victim believe that cash donations received in connection with the charity soccer match would be donated to Metta Welfare Association, a voluntary welfare organisation, on June 1, 2007.
Lin, who was charged under the name of Lim Aik Seng, is also said to have similarly cheated Mr Tang Keng Boon of $10,000.
The third charge accuses him of cheating Mr Peh Kang Lee of procuring cash donations totalling $205,000 from several people between March and June that year..
Lin has also since been prosecuted by the Ministry of Manpower for not paying salaries to 21 employees of his failed business, Celebrities.
A pre-trial conference has been fixed for coming Monday. .
If convicted of the first two cheating charges, Lin faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine, and for the third charge, up to one year in jail and/or a fine.
