A MAN who tailed his victims to their homes and molested them was sentenced to 24 months' jail and three strokes of the cane on Wednesday.
Terence Chan Wei Xiang, 22, a former private student pursuing a diploma in early childhood care and education, admitted last month to four of 12 counts of outrage of modesty earlier this year.
A district court heard that his modus operandi was to tail the victims at a safe distance from Admiralty MRT to their flats in Woodlands.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Navin S. Thevar said Chan had stated that he screened his victims, choosing young women and wearing revealing clothes.
His victims ranged from 18 to 27 years old.
Questioned why he committed the offences, Chan stated that he was sexually active and felt bored when his girlfriend was not around.
Pressing for a deterrent sentence, DPP Thevar told District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim that some molestation involved the touching of private parts or breasts.
He also pointed out that there were 12 victims in all, and the offences were pre-meditated.
Ms Gloria James said her client was very remorseful and shameful for what he had done and had prepared a written apology to each of the victims.
Chan could have been jailed for up to two years, fined or caned or received any combined punishment on each charge.
