A general practitioner has been suspended for 6 months and fined $3,000 for inappropriately prescribing medication to his patients.
In particular, the Disciplinary Committee of the Singapore Medical Council found Dr Ang Teo Kiang didn't exercising diligence and care by regularly prescribing benzodiazepines, a class of anti-anxiety drug, to patients.
His action contributed to the patients' physical and psychological dependence on the drugs.
The Council held a disciplinary inquiry in July against Dr Ang after a police report was lodged against him.
69 year old Dr Ang practices at Ang Clinic, at Block 163 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.
He pleaded guilty to 23 charges.
His 6-month suspension took effect on the 31st of July.
