Double trouble
Local singer and two-time Taiwan Golden Melody award winner Tanya Chua was recently detained at immigration customs. She was reported to have sported a different look from her previous five-year-old passport photo, prompting the immigration officer to question her, "Did you undergo a double eyelid surgery?"
The singer laughed at the topic of her old promotional photo used in her passport, "You can paste that photo up with the caption 'if you bump into her, this is Tanya Chua'."
She was recently back in Singapore a few days ago to promote the release of her latest album. A promotional photo from her previous album, Strangers, was used as her passport photo. The singer explained that the scanned photo was skewed larger and longer and resulted in a distorted look.
The distorted photo often resulted in extra long waits at the customs. "There was once when I went to Mainland China, I was asked if I underwent a double eyelid surgery. I was even questioned if I did plastic surgery. There was once I was also suspected of misappropriating someone else's passport photo!"
Tanya learnt her lesson and recently retook her latest passport photo three times. She did not want to go through the same unnerving experiences at the customs as she shared, "The new passport photo looks really young, like an 18-year-old."
With an increasing womanly image, the singer mused over her new-found femininity, "I actually have a romantic side of me - I'm not a stone." Tanya's latest album contains many heart-warming renditions that are personally composed by her. She hopes to bring a cheer to people in these low times with her uplifting songs.
