The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority or AVA has found excessive levels of methanol in two Chinese wine products manufactured by Lam Hock Leong Trading Company.
The two products found with excessive levels of methanol are “King Narcissus brand Ginseng Wine Tonic” and “Camel Brand Rice Wine”.
Retailers have been instructed to remove all the affected Chinese wine products.
As a precaution, other products manufactured by the same company have also been removed from shelves.
They include "King Narcissus" brand's Superior Rice Wine and brand Rice Wine.
From "Camel" brand - it's the Wu Chia Pi Chiew and Rose Wine while "Chon Mar" brand was the Red Samsu.
As an added precaution, the authorities have also instructed the factory to suspend its production and recall all the Chinese wine products produced by the factory with immediate effect, pending AVA’s investigation.
Consumers who have purchased any of the seven wine products produced by the company should discard the products and not consume them.
Excessive intake of methanol may cause visual disturbances, nausea, abdominal and muscle pain, dizziness, seizures and coma.
