Last ride on cable cars as system shuts for makeover
SINGAPORE : Singapore's iconic cable cars made their final journeys on Sunday, as the system shuts for a S$36 million makeover.
Crowds turned up at Mount Faber to catch a last ride on the cable cars.
The Sky Dining attraction was particularly popular, and was fully
booked for the day.
The cable car system will undergo the biggest - and longest - overhaul since it opened in 1974.
The cable system will switch from the current duo-cable to a mono-cable
and be raised 20 metres to stand 110 metres above sea level.
When works are completed in the second quarter of next year, riders
can also expect bigger cabins, flip-up seats, sound systems, as well as
a Swarovski-encrusted VIP cabin.
Each cable car, which will be re-branded as the Jewel Ride, will be able to take eight instead of six passengers currently.
Business will go on as usual at all other facilities at the Jewel Box at Mount Faber.
One rider, Razza Khan, said: "We specifically came here tonight so that
we can do the Sky Dining before it closes. We are looking forward to
when it reopens."
