Better let them cry now at age 12 than later when they are 40 and heading some GLC. ![]()
Frankly I am surprised that the teachers did not prepare the students in terms of expecting questions that could not be solved under time pressure.
Last time, my maths teacher always said that if you couldn't solve any question completely, just BS and write some workings or just state the formula just to make it seem like you were trying to solve the question. Might be possible to get partial marks so at least you don't feel like crap for totally blowing the question.
Then again, I was always happy with getting 1 mark out of 5. ![]()
i use to teach my younger bro lower sec mathematics..now i think they're learning this in primary school already..are they trying to compete with china in the mathematics department or what?

Yah, primary school kids are now expected to learn algebra but in terms of boxes drawn instead of using letters etc.
I presume MOE will continue to see how they can introduce more secondary school topics packaged nicely into the primary school syllabus in the near future.
First it was weaker students who cried.
Now, top students are also crying.
Next time, it will be the teachers and parents crying. ![]()

uhh.. my new colleague was a teacher.. almost crying..
parents.. crying to my mom who is helping the neighbours with their English...
so mission accomplished.. everyone cry ![]()
but why would MOE do that?
maybe moe is taking directions from the minister of education who is a elite, so maybe he thinks he only wants to see the top 10% and not care bout the rest..just like how the elites only care bout themselves and live in their own world.![]()
Every year probably a fixed % will get their A* regardless of how tough the exam was.
As a student, you just hope your friends screwed up more than you.
Yeah, that's the way the system works now - as long as you don't screw up more relative to your peers. ![]()

So those who got A* can tell their friends to get out of their elite uncaring faces. ![]()

Aiya, you beat me to this. ![]()
i mean seriously, setting the paper at this kinda standard, only the real smart ones will stand out..and make everyone else feel stupid and miserable..maybe they've forgotten what a kids life should be..and how many kids at that age even understands the importance of education or mature up enough to take education seriously..
Wow. Just wow.
And the SG government wonders why couples are loathe to have children.
"if you're not good enough, life will kick you in the balls. that's just
how things go. there's no point in lambasting the government for making
our society one that is, i quote, "far too survival of fittest". it's
the same everywhere." ![]()
I think MOE is crazy, they should have ask people to try out the questions to see if they can be done within the allocated period. Instead of idealistically trying to create inventive questions where only the setter of the question knows how to do it.
Somewhat like setting riddles, duh.
Also, this blind chasing of worldly unrealistically sophisticated problems will left the poorer developed students way behind, further demoralizing them, and will definitely segregate more the upper caste (gifted school or intellectuals) from the not so gifted ones, thereby depraving of less-gifted students the much needed opportunities in the near future, like getting to better sec school etc.
SO, MOE, issit in 5 years time, they will be setting questions of Nuclear Physics or Quantum Mechanics to PSLE students????!!!
uhh.. MOM? ![]()
wah.. the PSLE for their future jobs!! ![]()

Well said! MOE has lost the true meaning of education.
In our earnest and blind chase for next Nobel prize winners and getting our people recognized over the world, MOE has created more sinister by-products. Most probably nowadays people do not want to have children could well be indirectly related to the education system, which could be defective.
MOE may be curious to know that perhaps if they lower their endeavours in education, and concentrate on more prudent items like moral and civic education, integrity, leadership, etc instead of blind academic chase, there may well be more babies borne instead.

Exact same thing I learnt and did in poly. ![]()

The science syllabus has hardly changed over the years and even the O's science syallbus is not significantly different from that 10 yrs ago.
Maths is the only subject that has drastic and frequent changes.

I thought singapore always did well in maths and science?
As a mother of 2 and educator I certainly do not want my kids to go through the school system hanging their self worth and life to an exam paper... certainly their life is worth more than just that paper...
For the sake of my child's sanity, I've written a Note to my kids,
Best Exam Motivation from a Mother's Deepest Heart...
