A Singapore Armed Forces regular serviceman died in the United States yesterday.
First Warrant officer S. Thivvianathan was in Oklahoma as part of an advance logistics party, which supported the SAF training there.
The 51-year-old victim and other SAF servicemen had gone for a run along Old Cedar Lake in Oklahoma.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence says the men were running at their own pace.
Mr Thivvianathan, who was the transport supervisor, was found motionless by a local resident, who then performed CPR on him.
He was evacuated by ambulance to the nearest local hospital, where he was pronounced dead half an hour later.
The Ministry of Defence and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family.
MINDEF says it will be assisting the family in its time of grief and is investigating the incident.

The Ministry of Defence and SAF don't really care but we'll just copy and paste this.
MINDEF would look into his case file, Oh by the way, there will be no compensation.
Why no compensation? The incident happened in camp right? And overseas somemore?
He took the run in camp? Thought as long as you are in camp, you should be able to claim. If let's say a bunch of SAF soldiers decided to take a job within camp, but even if it is not on the official training programme, BUT recommended by OC and CO, and that they also have water paraded....then if someone collapse, this is the fault of the soldier?
I think the family can only claim from his own insurance policy.
SAF will only compensate you 5k for you to use to arrange his funeral expenses. lol
actually it sounds like the person was running outside of the camp. + it was probably on his own accord.
Don't know the details of course, but if it wasn't in camp and he was running because he felt like it, don't think SAF should be responsible. That said, they should try and help the family as far as possible.
