KPE ranks among the Top Tunnels in Europe

Singapore’s Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway is ranked among the best managed tunnels in Europe, both in design and safety.
That’s according to the prestigious European Tunnel Assessment Programme, EuroTap.
EuroTAP examines the preventative, detection, mitigating and self-rescue features of a tunnel as well as its risk and safety potentials.
An independent benchmarking exercise conducted in July this year, ranked the KPE in the band of "very good."
That's the top rating under the European Union Directive on Safety Requirements for Road Tunnels in Europe.
There's no mandatory requirement for tunnels in Singapore to benchmark against any international safety standards.
But the Land Transport Authority says it has undertaken this assessment to ensure that the design and operations of KPE are able to meet the same rigorous international standards that are required of European tunnels.--938Live
