Known for his hugely popular Singlish podcasts and blog posts, Mr Brown
has turned English ambassador for the Speak Good English Movement.
While he recognises the contradiction Mr Brown said said he wouldn't be
able to do his work without a strong foundation in English.
"For me there is no conflict because i see the English language as
someting beautiful and you still need to master it. I don't promote
singlish I use it just like any other language and dialect. For me its
something i will switch effortlessly between. "
Mr Brown was commissioned to write a story involving six characters.
Ms Jeanine Tan, is campagign manager of the Speak Good English Movement.
"If you read the story you will see that we have weaved in english tips
and anecdotes like highlighting different aspects of english like
popular english pharses and quotes crying over split milk , getting
brownie points and so on."
The Movement hopes to engage Internet-savvy young Singaporeans through
mr brown's online story that uses social media such as blogs, Twitter
and Facebook.
The Speak Good English Movement started in year 2000.
It is a nation wide movement to encourage Singaporeans to speak standard english that is universally understood.
