Smokers continue to light up in toilets against the law
Toilets are still a favourite spot for smokers to light up despite it being illegal.
Recent polls involving smokers and non smokers found that one in five of them lights up in public toilets
They felt that doing it in the toilet is not only convenient but also a way to save time.
It was also observed that cigarette burn marks or littered butts are most commonly found in toilets in coffee shops.
The polls were commissioned by Pfizer Singapore and the Restroom Association of Singapore to better understand smokers' habits.
Other findings of the polls, heavy fines are a more effective deterrent
but having a very clean or nice smelling toilet would also do as
smokers would think twice about lighting up.
Pfizer together with the association will be putting up posters in all
toilets from December to remind people of the harms of nicotine
addiction
Some 360 people took part in the polls conducted in August
Smoking is the most common preventable cause of death.
Yet, more than seven people die each day from smoking-related diseases.
Smoking in toilets was banned in 2005
