Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says he is 'studying the idea' of allowing Medisave to be used for health screenings.
In his latest blog post, Mr Khaw laid out the priorities of his
ministry next year, that is to focus on prevention and getting more
Singaporeans to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
One way to do that is to get more people to go for health screenings.
On using Medisave to pay for such checks, Mr Khaw says it is an
'interesting idea' though he also raised concerns that the system could
be abused by unethical service providers.
He adds that 'rules' need to be in place before Medisave can be used for health screenings.
These screenings could be done even at the workplace, as Mr Khaw calls for greater emphasis on workplace health.
Currently the Health Promotion Board gets an annual budget of 100
million dollars to help Singaporeans embrace a healthy lifestyle.
Mr Khaw says his ministry will allocate more funds if needed, with the
target of having at least 1 in 3 Singaporeans embrace a healthy
lifestyle.
