Would you marry someone else if given a chance to ?
What would you do if you were given a chance to marry again ?
Well, according to a survey, more than 8 in 10 of the respondents
polled said they would still choose their present spouse if they were
given a chance to start all over again.
Over 600 married individuals between the ages of 25 and 44 were polled for the survey conducted by Marriage Central in April.
The survey also showed that more than 8 in 10 of those polled said it's better to be married than to be single.
Almost all expressed satisfaction with their marriage and almost the
same number believed that marriage is a life-long commitment which
should not be dissolved.
But the couples polled don't mind a little helping hand in building this lifelong commitment.
About 6 in 10 of those surveyed said they would like to see more public
marriage enrichment activities that would them strengthen their
marriage.
Marriage Central's Chairperson Anita Fam, says that strengthening a marriage is crucial especially in the first nine years
According to divorce statistics over half of marriages failed under 9 years.
To give couple that extra boost, Marriage Central has tied up with the
National Library Board to set up information resource points in three
libraries here.
The first, located at Jurong Regional Library, will open tomorrow.
Couples will be able to find resources such as books and brochures that would help them in their marriage preparation.
Staff from the Marriage Central will also be stationed at these
resource points to answer any queries, or even refer the couples to
marriage counsellors.
Marriage Central, which is funded by the Ministry of Community Youth
and Sports, aims to setup all three resource points by 2012.
