Half the youths here glued to social networking sites

Survey shows half of youths spend over 3 hours daily surfing net
SINGAPORE: Social networking sites are keeping half the youths in Singapore glued to the Internet for three hours each day.
One in five have dated a stranger they met through a social networking site, and one in 10 have been sexually harassed on such sites.
This was what a survey by students of Singapore Polytechnic's School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences uncovered. Some 800 Singaporeans between the ages of 15 and 34 took part in the survey.
Some 64 per cent of respondents say they go to Facebook daily, and about one in three (35 per cent) visit YouTube every day.
The majority of them shared their personal information on the sites, with about 5 per cent saying they leave their home address on social networking sites.
Among the most popular activities on such sites: Watching video clips and blogging.
The polytechnic also announced the setting up of a Centre for Social Media, which aims to lead research on social media and examine its impact on society.
It will also provide insight on social media use among teenagers, and provide a forum to discuss current and future media trends.
