Commonwealth Avenue Food Centre to relocate by June 2010
SINGAPORE: The Commonwealth Avenue Food Centre, near Margaret Drive, will relocate in six months as the area has been earmarked for redevelopment. 30 per cent of the stalls there have already moved out.
Singaporeans, who have been getting their fix of many favourite
local dishes at the food centre for over 30 years, will still have a
little more time for that last meal there.
Some stall owners, despite having found new places to move to, are
opting to stay till the end, even if it means having to pay rent at
both places.
They said they have taken up that option to serve existing
customers and to let them know about the move. The food centre is
scheduled to close on June 30.
At least 20 per cent of the stall owners said they have decided to give up their businesses and retire.
