A 26-year-old Indonesian maid has been sentenced to four weeks in jail for feeding her employer urine.
Sri Aryati had committed the act of mischief in her first week with her new employers.
The petite, short-haired woman told the court she was upset she could not get enough sleep.
She said she could only go to bed at about 3am every day because she had to wait for her employer’s father to return home.
So on the night of 15th December last year, she filled a ceramic cup with her urine and poured it into a kettle and water jug.
The court heard her employer’s father-in-law and two-year-old son subsequently drank from the jug but did not fall ill.
Sri Aryati was found out when her employer thought the water had a weird smell.
She confessed after being grilled about it.
Pleading for leniency, Sri Aryati said she was remorseful for committing the offence.
She added she was the sole breadwinner and has two children back home.
The district judge acceded to her request to backdate her sentence to 22nd December, the day she was remanded.
She could have been jailed for up to one year and fined.
