DPM Teo urges S'poreans to continue to give generously to those in need
SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean has called on Singaporeans to continue to give generously to the needy.
Speaking at a charity show organised by MediaCorp's Suria and
Tabung Amal Aidilfitri Trust Fundon Friday night, Mr Teo said it's
important that no one is left behind as the economy improves.
The two-hour concert held at MediaCorp raised nearly S$500,000.
Local artistes such as Asian Idol Hady Mirza and Indonesian songbird Rossa sang their hearts out for a good cause.
So far, S$1.2 million has been raised through the trust fund and
the money will be distributed to the needy during the month of Ramadan.
Mr Teo said: “There are many charitable organisations which do good
work. I would encourage Singaporeans to continue to open their hearts,
open their wallets and give generously because its only through the
support of the community that these organisations are able to do the
work that they do.”
