Govt studying possibility of adopting nuclear energy in future

SINGAPORE: The Singapore government is not ruling out the nuclear
energy option as a way to diversify its energy sources beyond oil and
gas.
Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industy, S Iswaran, said
Singapore needs to study the requirements needed for nuclear energy and
whether they are feasible in the country's context.
He added that other economies are also moving in this direction.
Other alternatives suggested by the Economic Strategies Committee
(ESC) include importing electricity and coal in the medium term, and
setting price incentives to increase energy efficiency.

If that happen I don't think there will be any left.

I dun think msia and indo will let us build... if power plant accidently blow up, both msia and indo will be affected...

No, Indo plan one nuclear plan and Malaysia (Was it JB?) also got heard of some inital studying.
So if either one got accident / salah happenings then SG how? (So SG govt should stop them from building as well, who ask the f*** person go and create a SEA Nuclear Free zone, such that even US subs wants to park at our Changi Naval Base, their subs are not those nuclear capable. Hence, we, the SG ppl and govt, who has signed the treaty as well should stop the others who has signed the treaty as well from breaking it.)
There are more options that we could consider before jumping into the nuclear energy option. Other than economic benefits and some military advantage we don't really need, I do not see how it could benefit majority of the people in Singapore. Moreover the risk is high and it is almost unavoidable, although no one could be sure of the scale of the disaster and when.
Solar energy is one of the feasible options and it has been implemented quite successfully in many cities with some helps of the local government. I believe we should seriously consider this option. Wind energy is another option that we must not rule out deliberately. With proper consideration and planning, I believe we could easily put up some wind farms in Singapore or its nearby islands.
If people in other countries could benefits from electricity generated by wind and sun thousands of kilometers away, I see no reason why we could not construct such wind and solar power generation farms in our neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia.

we could have a joint effort to produce clean energy for Asean members!

both malaysia and indonesia already have experimental nuclear reactors in place, and both already have plans in place to build nuclear power stations. So we can just stick the finger at them and tell them to stuff it.

this is it....end of sg
either one of their reactors explode and sg is an dead island

it's not inconceivable that one day one or both of these countries would go rouge and build a nuclear weapon. Imagine if radical islamists come into power in those countries ...

Not really.

Spore too small to have nuclear power plant.
If explode...all will get it.
How about built the plant in one of the spore island??
Still find it very risky.

Wonder why got such dumb idea or it's just a ruse to let us continue our dependency on oil and gas.

Solar technology has always had the problem of energy storage. There might be enough sunlight to provide us with the energy to run Singapore during the day but where do we get the power at night?
It is the same with wind, how are we going to store the excess energy so it would be enough for us to use at night or when there's no wind?
The most solar and wind farms can do is to supplement our energy needs, it's too unstable to rely on for everyday use.
Unless we retool our entire economy to be able to function factoring such disruptions i don't see it being applicable. Hell, i think it might actually be enjoyable.
I see nuclear energy as the only real solution.
I have ever bring up this issue many years ago (not here, other forum site) and the conclusions are Negative. Not possible. Due to limited land...not a good idea. If malaysia...possible cos they are hundreds times bigger than us.
We are too small.
