A 22-year old woman has been hauled to court for allegedly giving another woman a sum of money to take the rap for her traffic offence.
Evangeline Tay Su Ann, a Ngee Ann Polytechnic student at the time of
the offence, is accused of giving Leung Man Kwan 1,000 dollars to take
the blame on her behalf.
Tay beat a red light at the junction of Lornie and Sime Roads at around 10pm on 22 January 2008.
It’s believed she then approached a former Deputy Superintendent of
Police, Kelvin Choo Yew Beng to find someone to take the rap.
Choo agreed and allegedly roped in Leung, who was his girlfriend at that time.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Department says in its media
release that Tay is believed to have transferred 1,000 dollars into
Choo’s bank account in mid February 2008.
This, after Leung’s particulars were allegedly submitted to the Traffic Police.
It’s believed Choo then transferred the money to his ex-girlfriend shortly after this.
Those found guilty of intentionally perverting the course of justice could be jailed a maximum of seven years and fined.
Tay is now out on a $5,000 bail.
