The Institute of Technical Education, or ITE, hopes to achieve a 90 per cent graduation rate in five years time.
About 82 percent of its students graduated last year.
The ITE says the new target is part of its plan to become a leading innovator in vocational training.
And to do that, it plans to make better use of its facilities that simulate actual work situations in various industries.
It also intends to expand on its range of courses, to keep up with the changing needs in the workplace.
Its Chief Executive Office, Bruce Poh.
"In the certification that they have, we will also be looking at
industry, you know, accredited certification and licensing
certification as an added value to their Nitec programmes."
Besides improving on its courses, the Institute also plans to send more students overseas to gain experience.
Mr Poh again.
"About 25 percent of our students will have opportunities to go
overseas either for industrial attachment, for student exchange or
sports, cultural or even community service programmes."
ITE also plans to introduce a course in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management by year end.
In addition, short courses for the public in areas of healthcare, beauty and wellness and workplace safety are also provided.

I believe they are allowing more competition from foreign students in the ITEs.
I have seen PRC students studying at the ITEs before.
Might spur the locals to work harder. ![]()

What you mean?
ITE is like mastering the basics to your course of study. Once you graduated, it's easier for you to cope in poly as you already know the basics.
A high percentage of those who end up in ITE is not by choice. These people at the top of ITE's management hierachy possess at least a masters or bachelors and are always driven by KPIs. And out of the 3 ITEs, they always try to outshine each other. Window dressing is a must.
It has been shown that many top ITE achievers move on to polys and struggle. Why? That's because the ITE curriculum is basically rote learning, unlike the dynamism in polys.
