The job market appears to be looking up, with the private sector ready to hire more fresh graduates this year.
It's offering two-thirds of the job openings at a career fair organised by the National University of Singapore.
Private sector employers from the financial and life sciences sectors, and even fashion houses are taking part.
Dean of Students, Professor Tan Teck Koon
"Because of the economic downturn last year, it must have been quite
difficult for graduating students in general. But I think it was a good
lesson for us, and that is why part of the NUS five-pronged strategy
was to create more jobs."
One tie-up is with recruitment agency Kelly Services, to increase job openings by up to 15 per cent.
Kelly sees its role as not only in getting jobs for more graduates, but
also in equipping them so they know what to expect from the job
landscape
Here, Senior Vice-President of Kelly Services Asia Pacific, Dhirendra Shantilal sees a need for an attitude change.
"They need to be a little bit more adaptable, more flexible - just
don't look at the title and the pay - look at the opportunity of where
they can build a career."
