Labour Movement Goes on the Offensive, Calling for Total Productivity, Pervasive Innovation, Inclusive Workforce Creating Growth the CBF Way
The Labour Movement is targeting a three percent productivity improvement this year.
The target, unveiled at its Workplan Seminar this morning, is at the
top end of what was recommended by the Economic Strategies Committee or
ESC last week.
Taking the cure from the ESC, the National Trades Union Congress
stressed that the push for productivity this time round must be
broad-based and inclusive.
Its ‘Total Productivity’ strategy underlines that the productivity drive must embrace All Sectors, All Enterprises and All Workers.
It says over time, this strategy will foster a productivity eco-system
where improvements in one sector or company reinforce those in another.
At the same time, the Labour Movement is calling for a quantum leap in innovation.
Its ‘Pervasive Innovation’ strategy targets 100 per cent innovation
breakthroughs in 3 per cent of companies spread across all sectors.
It says this will result in innovation that pervades all frontiers of
the economy and fuel productivity growth, not just for this year, but
into the future.
The Labour Movement’s macro targets for 2010 are to contribute towards
sustaining full employment, increasing the employment rate, and
minimising underemployment.
It says ‘Total Productivity’ and ‘Pervasive Innovation’ will be the twin engines that will power its push towards these targets.
The Labour Movement is now looking to the Government to unveil bold measures in its Budget Statement.
At the same time, it looks to employers to take the lead in driving the national productivity charge.
The Labour Movement says it's confident that with the backing of the
tripartite partners, it will be well-positioned to achieve the targets,
powered by an inclusive workforce.
