More job-seekers approached Singapore's Community Development Councils or CDCs for help last year.
According to the latest figures released by the People's Association,
some 38,000 job-seekers applied for employment assistance at the CDCs,
a jump of more than 50 per cent from 2008.
And of these, more than half of them managed to land jobs - close to 60 per cent more than in 2008.
The CDCs say this success came about after they stepped up their placement effort and training support.
The Councils had also worked together with the Workforce Development
Agency to put in more resources to ensure that service levels did not
drop.
In line with these, the CDCs organised nearly 500 recruitment events last year- about 200 more than in 2008.
Mayor of South West CDC, Amy Khor, says the councils will continue to
organise more targeted job fairs which were found to be more effective.
They'll also look into developing employment assistance packages for
different groups of job seekers such as mature workers, women and
ex-offenders.
