THREE hawker centres will be getting a facelift in March, said the National Environment Agency on Saturday.
Under the Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme (HUP), the hawker centres at Block 448 Clementi Ave 3, Block 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1 and Block 531A Upper Cross Street will be closed from Monday.
Besides improving the hygienic environment for stallholders, patrons can expect a more conducive and inviting environment when the hawker centres reopen for business.
The three hawker centres will be upgraded with elderly and handicap-friendly features such as ramps to enhance accessibility, as well as improved ventilation and upgraded toilet facilities.
Other works include replacement of pipes and electrical wiring and a change of floor and wall tiles. Lighting conditions and fire safety features will also be improved.
The hawker centres in Clementi and Bukit Merah will resume operations in the last quarter of this year, while the upgrading for Upper Cross Street is expected to be completed in the first half of 2011.
