WOMEN'S advocacy group Aware has appointed long-time member Corinna Lim as its first executive director.
The Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) on Monday announced that the 45-year-old corporate lawyer has taken up the new post, which was created to professionalise its operations.
Previously, Aware's executive committee, made up of volunteers, had overseen its operations.
The appointment of Ms Lim follows a change in Aware's Constitution to provide for a seven-member board, instead of a 12-member executive committee, made in 2008.
The change was approved by the Registrar of Societies in October last year and will take effect at Aware's next annual general meeting.
With Ms Lim taking the reins, the board can focus on broad policy-making and governance, leaving the day-to-day management of Aware in her hands.
