POLICE have been directed to investigate an alleged assault by a Saudi Arabian Embassy official on a condominium resident.
Mr A. Jaafar, 37, a senior executive, alleged that the Third Secretary of the Saudi Arabian Embassy here, Mr Bader I.F. Al-Balawi, attacked him when he told him not to park at a space reserved for the handicapped at Glendale Park condominium in Hillview Avenue.
He filed a Magistrate's Complaint against the embassy official, and yesterday, a magistrate ruled that the complaint was serious enough to warrant an investigation by the police.

Assault: MFA in touch with Saudi official
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MFA, says it has been in touch with the
Saudi Ambassador here over the case of an alleged assault by a Saudi
Arabian Embassy official on a condominium resident.
A spokesman, responding to media queries said the Ministry has
emphasised the importance of observing the due process of law in
Singapore and asked that Mr Bader and the Saudi Embassy cooperate fully
with the Singapore authorities.
A Magistrate's Complaint was filed recently against Mr Bader I F Al
Balawi, Third Secretary of the Saudi Embassy in Singapore.
According to reports, the complainant, Mr A Jaafar, a 37-year-old senior
executive, alleged that Mr Bader attacked him on Jan 9.
He had told the Saudi official not to park at a space reserved for the
handicapped at Glendale Park condominium in Hillview Avenue.
The spokesman said the Ambassador has given an assurance that the Saudi
Embassy respects Singapore's laws and regulations.
It would extend its full cooperation to ensure that the facts of the
case can be established and the matter handled within Singapore's legal
processes.
The spokesman added that ass the matter is before the Attorney-General's
Chambers now, it is not proper for MFA to speculate on what steps will
be taken.
