THE woman who lost her suit against the Novena Church over what she claimed was a botched exorcism, is now a bankrupt after she failed to pay three churchgoers over $150,000 in legal bills.
Madam Amutha Valli Krishnan, 54, a former national race walker, sued the church, two priests and six churchgoers in 2006. She was ordered to pay costs after she lost her case last year.
She did not comply and earlier this month, three of them - Mr Benny Tan, Mr Nasrom Abdullah and Ms Cheong Lai Meng - who were represented by lawyer
Anthony Lee applied to the court to make her a bankrupt.
Then, she had told The Straits Times that she could afford to pay them but would not do so because it was 'against her principles'.
Last Thursday, Madam Valli, who did not show up for the bankruptcy hearing, was declared bankrupt by a High Court assistant registrar.
