Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean says there should be no
discrimination at the work place.
He noted that employers have come to recognise the need for fair
employment practices in order to tap the potential of a diverse
workforce.
The challenge now is to put this into practice.
Speaking at an annual conference on fair employment practices, DPM Teo
noted that gone are the days when employees are likely to stay in the
same organisation for a long period of time.
Hence adopting fair employment practices is a win-win situation for both
employers and employees.
A company who is known to treat its workers fairly will have a better
chance of attracting and retaining employees in Singapore's highly
competitive labour market, says Mr Teo.
But to successfully implement fair employment practices, both employers
and workers need to play their part.
Giving an example, Mr Teo said that while an older worker may be
eligible for reemployment, he must accept that his re employment is
contingent on a good performance record.
In addition, a strong tripartite relationship also plays an important
role.
Mr Teo noted that with the introduction of the tripartite guidelines to
prevent job advertisement that are discriminatory, the number of such
ads have fallen from about 20 percent in 2006 to 1 percent today.

That is what he thinks "should be no discrimination at work", in reality discriminiation is common practice by unprofessional employers.
Tell them to practice what they preach plz. Their own bloody cabinet is made up of ah peks. Not even an ah ma or lao chio. Tch.
It would be good if the government can come out with some laws that protect Singaporeans and the elderly workers.
