STOMPer LCM was at NTU Canteen
number 1 at about 5:45pm when he noticed that there were many foreign
students having dinner in the canteen there. Are they depriving locals
of a place in our universities? He questioned.
In his
contribution, he wrote:
“I was at NTU Canteen number 1 at about
1745 hrs.
“There were many foreign students having dinner and many more walking towards it.
“After I finished my dinner; I went around the
other NTU canteens; the situation was similar.
“Looks
like more than 50 % of the students in our universities are foreigners;
especially, from PRC.
“Are our native NS
Men's children deprived of course places and hostels accommodations by
so many foreigners in our universities?”
not surprising. Not the 1st time hearing this.Have read else where that NTU engineering sch is dominated by China ppl...
would you rather have the university you want to go to admit you by the color of your passport or the power of your brain?
look at "Country M", where the universities admit based on the color of your skin. what are their rankings?
You go to polytechnic also the same story.
Finally a stomper noticed something that is worth of news value
vote the pap out in the next election and you will see the foreigners out of our country

without doubts PRCs are more intelligent than Singaporeans, not only they dominate the unis, they dominate the dean list every semester also
local students study too long hours, just like the way they work .. but just too bad that they are not smart enough

Those male students in uni already crippled by NS. Cannot compare. And also those PRC parents spend so much money to enter their kids into uni here, the PRC will for sure put in more effort.
It is completely wrong to compare PRC with Singapore students.

Most PRCs are on scholarship given out by government.
They even get rewards by the government if they top their cohorts.

Those foreigners come here, basically their main activity is here to study.
Their entire life here in Singapore is spend on studying. Distractions are minimum.
The morale is different, the motivation is also different.
This is clearly not the case for singaporeans. That's why it is totally wrong to compare the two together.
our own Sg men are already being biased by the feministic policies with no one coming to our help...yet still want to talk about how foreign PRs take away our jobs and university places....if Sg women got the cowsense to bring up the topic...stand up to their own country men's issues first...
Yes I agree. The government seems to be too generous with these foreign students.
No wonder many of our local students are forced to go to private commercial schools to study for their degree!

you are not totally wrong, but you have to think, what about those that worked hard, do they deserve this?
If may be true that for undergrads, locals may have more places but
1) They did not really say how the locals are distributed. Just look at engineering schools,
2) They did not really say, is it the same situation for post grads, from what I seen, foreign students make up the main poplulation for post grads for both masters and PhD.
3) They also did not say what is the situation for research staff and faculty. Although technical staff are mostly filled by locals, the same cannot be said about the the research and faculty. Look at engineerig schools again, most of the staff are foreigners, I may be biased here but from what I see most foreign faculty tends to take foreign post-grad students close to their nationality (PRC-PRC, India-India, etc).
Seriously, why teritary education become like this: Poly, undergrads - Local. Postgrad/Faculty: Foreigners.
NTU = Not Too Useful
NUS = Not Useful n Stupid
dun worry.....in life, many paths to success...

something similar:
These landlords were opposed to cities and to traders in cities. They wanted the trade for themselves, or they wanted foreigners, such as the Dutch, the Swedes, or the Hanseatic League, to come to their estates on the Vistula River, for example, and buy the goods they produced with serf labor, that is, grain, wool, hides, lumber, and things of this kind.
As a result, Eastern Europe fell backward into a colonial area. Its trade and its middle class more or less vanished. The cities became insignificant, and trade in the cities was largely taken over by foreigners and aliens, many of whom were Jews: this is the origin of the ghettos and pales of Eastern European cities. Incidentally, this process is not unique in Poland.
It is very common in history for a landed group in control of a society to destroy commercial activity and allow it to fall into the hands of aliens, as the Ottoman Empire and the Russians allowed their commerce to be controlled by Frenchmen and Greeks and various others.
This is a widely prevalent system.

Sorry, our students have to compete against the students from the whole world. If those foreign students are not from China and India but from Europe or America, would you complain? æˆçŽ‹è´¥å¯‡åœ¨äºŽæœ‰èƒ½ä¸Žæ— èƒ½ã€‚

People from europe/america only comes on exchange programmes, don't think they will study here, Other than that, only people from asia comes in to join NTU/NUS, no doubt we compete against the whole world.

No, if Singaporeans cannot compete against the students of the world then who are we? A country of losers?
People from Asia come here to study as the culture is a metropolitian city in Asia.
