SINGAPORE: Mother's Day is on Sunday and as Channel NewsAsia’s news team found out, children are splurging on their beloved mums, many ahead of the actual day.
One new gift for the new mum is beauty treatments.
Some salons said business is up 20 per cent in the month of May, mostly
because of Mother's Day packages.
Many customers bring their mothers along for the treatments with some
doing so two weeks back.
Beauty treatment packages can cost between S$1,000 and S$6,000.
Another favourite is flowers.
Florists said sales are generally up some 20 per cent during Mother's
Day with many ensuring their prices remain unchanged.
And what's a Mother's Day celebration without food?
Unlike last year, restaurants said reservations were slow until last
week, when it started to pick up.
Chris Hooi, executive director, Dragon Phoenix Restaurant, said: "With
the opening of the two IRs, the industry faced some competition because
there's a new destination to celebrate Mother's Day. Therefore,
restaurants and credit card companies are coming up with a lot of
value-added packages to attract customers."
