TP arrest errant cyclist who allegedly offered bribe

A 24 year-old male cyclist who attempted to bribe 2 traffic police officers yesterday found out the hard way that police integrity could not be bought.
On 9 June 2010 at about 3.50 pm, Sergeant Nazir Bin Jaffar and Sergeant Mohammed Fadzly spotted a cyclist riding on the footway at Geylang Road before the junction of Sims Way and directed him to stop. However the cyclist refused to do so and tried to escape. Sergeant Nazir and Sergeant Fadzly immediately gave chase on foot and managed to stop him at Geylang Lorong 4.
The officers explained to the cyclist that he would be booked for cycling along the footway of a public road. The said cyclist then took out two Singapore ten dollar notes and offered it to the two traffic police officers in return for letting him off. True to their calling, the two traffic police officers immediately rejected the cash offered and placed the cyclist under arrest for attempting to bribe them. The case has since been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
Ag Commander of Traffic Police, Superintendent Poh Lye Hin commended the two officers and said, “Integrity is one of the four core values of the SPF. I am proud of my officers who held true to their values and rejected the bribe without hesitation. Their actions have certainly exemplified what the SPF stands for.” -

Actually cycling on footway is minor issue if he is not speeding, he should have just stopped and respond to the police officers.
