SINGAPORE : A 54-year-old man has been arrested for pretending to be a doctor and molesting an 11-year-old girl on the pretext of conducting a medical examination.
Police said the girl was approached by the suspect at the
underpass of Bugis MRT Station at about 6.45am on May 21.
He claimed to be a doctor and asked the victim whether she was feeling
well.
When the girl replied that she had experienced some aches and pains on
her body, he volunteered to conduct an examination on her.
He then led her to a secluded staircase at a nearby shopping centre and
molested her.
On June 15, while police officers were conducting an ambush operation
along Segar Road, they spotted a man who fitted the description of the
suspect provided by the victim.
The officers moved in and arrested the suspect.
Investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to have
outraged the modesty of other young victims using the same tactics.
The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday.
If found guilty, he may face 5 years' imprisonment, a fine or caning.
Police have reminded parents to advise their children to be wary of
strangers and not to follow them to secluded places.
