SG uni girl raped in HK: Are our students safe overseas?

A female Singaporean university student was allegedly raped by 3 Nepalese men on a yacht in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. STOMPer rachel, who found this news story online, questions the safety of students on overseas exchange programmes.
The STOMPer hopes the university could clarify and reassure other students and their parents.
According to a report on http://news.sina.com.hk, the 22-year-old woman was alone when she met the 3 men in a bar in Lan Kwai Fong. The men invited the drunk woman to a yacht in Causeway Bay and she was raped there.
The woman woke up the next day to find her clothes in disarray and made a police report. She was then sent to the hospital for a medical check-up.
The police investigated immediately and one of the suspects has been arrested based on CCTV footage from the bar. The identities of his two accomplices have been confirmed in a police statement but their whereabouts remain unknown.
The STOMPer said:
"Are students safe when they travel overseas for exchange programmes?
"Hope the school can clarify this matter and provide reassurance to the students."

while no one deserves to get raped, being intoxicated and wandering around on her own, is a surefire way to get robbed, raped and murdered....
and what the hell has the school got to do with this? the woman was 22 years old and should know better...

The universities in both countries don't need to babysit adults everywhere they go.

And that applies whether you're on holiday or studying - the risks are the same. That makes the question absurd. The Stomper was probably naive, thinking that exchange programmes include chaperones like school field trips.
