STOMPer Red thinks that there are many S'poreans who treat their maids well and consider them as part of the family, in response to the story of the Filipina maid who inherited $6million from her late employer.
The former maid -- and now millionaire -- came to Singapore in 1984 to
take care of Dr Quek Kai Miew's ailing mother and household chores.
When
Dr Quek passed away last year, the 47-year-old Filipina inherited
$6million from her grateful employer's estate, including an apartment in
Leonie Hill.
In the STOMPer's email:
"Despite the stories about S'poreans who treat their maids shabbily, like getting them to tie shoelaces or picking beansprouts from noodles or even ill-treating them, I believe there are many Singaporeans who treat their maids like they are family members.
"This
is especially the case when the maid has been with the family for many
years and have established a relationship that is more than employer and
maid.
"In the $6million maid story, the maid was treated like a daughter by her employer. They also confided in each other.
"I think it's also good that the millionaire Filipina is still humble and thinks of worldly goods as 'fluffy things'."

depends on luck which kind of co. u work for, wat kind of boss........
Wow, it's better to be maid.
At least return is better than some employer.

The payout is a whole lot better than TOTO, even if you struck $10 million TOTO, Singapore Pools will say it's distributed to 10-20 winners, ultimately you get less than a million dollars. ![]()
yeah.. just treat your maid the normal way ....
(ample food, ample rest)..
don't mis-treat them..
if not...
you may end up drinking urine....![]()

i thought you would have said good karma....
i am not sure if all of you realized it took 1 person the late Dr Quek to change some image of Singaporean......of not being a maid bully or ill treat their maid.....I hope more will come out not necessary have to be money but compassion towards their maid and treat them with human dignity.
Thank you Dr. Quek. Hats off.
