Overnight parking at HDB and URA lots to cost more
Singapore: Charges under the Night Parking Scheme (NPS) offered at HDB and URA carparks will be doubled with effect from 1 Nov 2010.
The overnight night parking charge of $2 will be revised to $4, while the current night parking half-hourly charge remains at 50 cents.
In a news release, the HDB and URA said most NPS carparks which provide overnight parking for non-resident motorists are currently heavily utilized.
Due to the higher parking demands, residents with Season Parking Ticket(SPT) are facing difficulties in finding parking space when they return home at night to these carparks which initially offered adequate parking space to meet season parking needs.
With the parking charge revision, it's hoped that the interests of Season Parking Ticket holders will be better served, while managing the parking demands.
The new $4 night parking coupons will be available for sale from 15 October.
The HDB and URA said motorists holding the $2 night parking coupons can continue to use them by displaying two $2 coupons.

Ya agree. Why the hell those LTA want to increase?! For godness sick, $2 is already reasonable, add on $2 more is ridiculous. I think Government really want SG to take public transport.

In a way, it is a deterrent to benefit those who paid for season parking and live at that particular area to have sufficient lots, instead of being forced to park elsewhere.

Reason given was.... a lot of residents complain no space to park at night... so they did the most intelligent thing... raise the overnight carpark fees!

unless the govt is trying phase out the poor souls who can barely afford a car....

Now, every solution comes with a price.
You want more, you pay more.
If you cannot afford, dun enjoy.
If you want extra chilli, pay more.
No one ask them how they justify that price solution as a PRICE increase.

Actually I think a lot of people never buy season parking... everyday put $2.... one month only $62.... and some take chances.. one month dio fined $60 once.... season parking is like $75 per month???? Now $4 per night... become $124.... maybe a lot of people will switch to season parking after all..

Many of these policy makers do not stay in HDB, so they have no idea what its like to find car park lots at night. Is URA/HDB over selling the season parking? If not how can a season ticket holder can't get a parking lot!
Increase 100% cost of Night parking won't solve the limited parking space problem but irriates motorist only.
