That's where you are wrong, athletes take lots of carbo during competition, during Olympic Games 2008, Michael Phelps took lots of carbo for his meals.
As US swimming sensation Michael Phelps sets his sights on more gold medal wins at the Beijing Olympics this weekend, the BBC's Michael Hirst examines the part an extraordinary diet has played in the sportsman's remarkable success.
If it is true that you are what you eat, then here is the suggested intake if you want to become history's most successful Olympian:
For breakfast: three fried egg sandwiches, with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, fried onions and mayonnaise, followed by three chocolate-chip pancakes; a five-egg omelette; three sugar-coated slices of French toast and a bowl of grits (a maize-based porridge), washed down with two cups of coffee.
For lunch: half a kilogram (one pound) of enriched pasta; two large ham and cheese sandwiches on white bread smothered with mayonnaise, washed down by energy drinks.
For dinner: Another half-kilogram of pasta, perhaps with a carbonara sauce, followed by a large pizza and more energy drinks.
That combination may not sound very healthy, and at a staggering 10,000 calories, would feed five average men for a day.

wah
but dun think they'll take rice right?
Maybe the foreign athletes get a buffet spread by renowned chef during dinner.
Please dun forget they are using your hard earned money for this big wayang event instead of "helping the poor" as claimed by some one.
The food is what you get for being local.
This is the future treatment that the local will enjoy.
The youth of today will see and enjoy first hand experience how the local are being wasted for this event.
This will also be the future of their children if they continue to keep quiet for their right.
This will create a deep impression of the existing generation that they are being wasted cos their father and mother did not stand for their rights.
It's all due to the fucking PAP.
reminds of..
if got big shot go to certain MINDEF compound, food will suddenly become better... else..
SFI. lol
fcuk up food
i had their food for dinner yesterday and trust me, its tasteless.
i must agree that sometimes(rare) their food is nice, but most of the times, their food sucks.
from there, i brought/bought my own food.
so how is YOG doing now?

Our money well spent.

Because SFI is running the food show mah.
I was always told in camp that one meal catered for us at the cookhouse is 5-7 bucks, so I take it that what the volunteers were getting is the 2-3 bucks variant.
Where do you want your 3 meals? Hawker centre, food court, or restaurant?

You took the words out of my mouth.
Haha... YOG forgot to ask volunteers to surrender their handphones... CANNOT TAKE PICTURE!!!
From the way they forced student to write about YOG, talk about YOG and sing about YOG, you can see how desperate and how useless it is to force ideas into people mind.
It is strange that some forumers can link national pride with YOG when the money can be better spent on helping the needy in the society.
What is national pride when you have a empty and hollow sports events at the expense of your own people plight and minority chase of insignificant fame ?
We are no better than some asian countries who also forced certain ideology into their people.
When there is a disparity in the food standard, then what is the justice to the parents where their kids have to waste their study time to be involved in a event which parades to the whole world on how money can be wasted.
Anyway, its quite a bad move to give the volunteers such a poor nutrition meal... At least you should have given them better food. A KFC or MacDonald's meal would have been healthier and comes with a drink. Better than those junk plastic box food!
After all, they come forward to volunteer, and spend hours doing escorts and standing under the hot sun. Certainly they deserve more.
And I believe most will feel that they were not appreciated at the end of the day, giving them a poor impression of the country and how politicians run events here.
fyi
Athlete food menu nutrition are under the care
of local Poly food and nutrition
students
If work 1 hour = $3.50, 3 hours should be $10.50.
Don't tell me the PAP government want to suck money from volunteers also.
Can't even provide proper meals for volunteers, this is pathetic.

Heard they offering $5 per hour for ambassadors hired for the same job as volunteers... Being a volunteer sounds like free national service and labour huh???
Does it means that FT Volunteer get different treatment than local volunteer?
