SINGAPORE : Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has asked Singaporeans to view problems such as overcrowding in trains and increasing property prices in perspective, and remember those who are less fortunate.
Mr Goh was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community event on Saturday held in conjunction with the Muslim fasting month.
The Ramadan-on-Wheels is an annual event that aims to help the needy. It is organised by the Malay Youth Literary Association.
This year, over 200 beneficiaries who have been given S$200 Giant
Hypermarket shopping vouchers each, headed off with volunteers to shop
for their daily groceries.
All that would not have been possible without supporters.
And it's this thoughtfulness that Mr Goh hopes to see in Singaporeans,
even as the country deals with challenges which have accompanied the
country's success.
"It's important for those who are facing problems of success - like
inadequate car parks and housing at the top end - to think of those who
are struggling to make a living everyday. There are many people who are
not able to benefit from our overall success. So just remember that, as
we also try to solve our own problems at the top end," urged SM Goh.
Ramadan-on-Wheels has reached out to more than 1,200 disadvantaged families since it started in 2001.

what?? Using the disabled as a platform to assuage our unhappiness over mrt overcrowding?
Lau Goh, lau goh.
Actually the problem lies with the charity organisations.
You donate $10.... About $8 goes for marketing and $2 goes to the needy.... I have seen many charity organisations hiring teenagers to pull donators for donations... particularly Ang Mo Kio Central...
On average, those students earn like $2 commission from selling the $10 donation ticket... Marketing and printing of those lovely donation Thank You ticket and staff costs take up about $6 and $2 to the needy..
Personally I dont donate to such charities.... They are using "Charity" as a means to get the donations, but arent helping the needy to much extent.
That's why I don't even donate. Those kids holding coin cans at public places? I shun them like they have STDs.

Those coin cans is CIP programme lah.... Those students can donate... They are doing it for CCA points... But as to where the money goes, remains another question again.
What I hate is those buggers... Can I have a minute with you.... Would you like to donate "BLA BLA Charity Organisation".... Try to sweetalk with you... Those people are really doing evil by earning money over the needy.
ramadan on wheels????meal on wheels???what are they homeless??
less fortunate????u mean pin them up on a notice board n say u could end up like that unfortunate dude??
how comforting!!!
its like your production line has problems that stops profit making margins.....and then your engineer comes telling u,"look at least our factory is still here......others have went bancrupt already."
meawhile u continue to swallow all yer losses as not to what was designed from the start...soon.....the enginneer would leave letting u be the sole owner n werker of the once profitable factory.
how do u plunder a company to bancrupcy as an executive:
1)increase your salary as taking $$$$ direct is trackable and grouped as corruption and a criminal offence.
2)sit back do nothing, talk cock, dance and sing songs
3)make a list of excuses for all accidents from floods to earthquakes
4)when time is up and company looks like its about to collapse ...time to make an exit.
5)retire with the salary you made up in parliament somewhere in canada or australia or new zealand.
singaporeans dont have luxury of time.....vodka i can buy.....caviar i can get....alaskan king crab i can get...but time is something we cant get n buy!!!daily results and performance!!dont wait until end of the week and then say whats the performance like!!!!!its tooo late already!!!
What's wrong with SM Goh and when he was PM Goh?
All of you should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing your personal hatred towards the ruling party to cloud the better of your personal judgemental views.
Whatever is it, I'm sure you all only know how to talk big and bragged after you have secretly voted for PAP to protect your own future.
Please take a snapshot of your rebellious votes and post it in forums before you come and launch your slanderous accusations against PAP.
Otherwise, you are just another product that symbolised the society failures in Singapore.
votes ???what votes??nobody voted in here...!!must be a fabrication.
normally when a country goes to vote who will be the next prime minister.....every single citizen from every walkover constituency or walkover town goes to vote who will be the next pm./...
and when pm lose his seat////the next deputy pm takes over.
its that simple...but they cahnged it so pm will be there for longer time than he should be.
dont take much brains to see hwat they are doin!!simple.
then some simpleton would say:
vote is the only way....vote pap out
or
u all voted for pap its your business
or
slander ,,,sue.....i yam the power!!!
we all know data can be changed...laws can be changed....even sex can be changed......but u cant change what ist not supposed to be in reality.it will tell and show as it is already now.so big n wide n u cant see???getting used to it????get used to death then.
so when will our perspective be viewed?
come on lah. our population at 5million? why need so many people?
all those floor traps got no skill 1. only thing is cheap. singapore going too fast already everything be number 1 and the fooking living standard become sky high employee for sgreans become so low!
Really, I think foreigners were initially brought into Singapore to do the jobs that Singaporeans do not want to do.
Singaporeans have high dreams of themselves and often over-estimate their own abilities.
Looking at the mindset and attitude in this forum, it is a clear fact that many Singaporeans simply do not possess the drive and aptitude to succeed.
Many Singaporeans have DREAMS of working for some big companies...yes, FOREVER WORKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE !!!
Can I laugh at such laughable dreams of Singaporeans? ![]()
Anyway, Singaporeans cannot do alot of jobs, take hardships........
But that's normal because they grew up with spoons inside their mouths.....they need to be spoon-fed and simply cannot do housechores by themselves without exploiting the cheap labour of foreign maids.
Why do we even employ foreign maids when we know that it is quite inhumane to shortchange them with such low wages?
I know, because we're a society of cheap-skates.

I think you must be terribly outdated.
The foreigners we brought in, in the past, were expats who were good in terms of experience and skills.... and jobs that we do not want to do.
Look at what we have been bringing in recently.... Foreign graduates from Phillippines, China and India fighting with us, with close to equal qualifications and skills, that ask for lesser wages, and fighting with young graduates and the older workers over the already scarced jobpool....
Its hard even for students to find a part-time job during vacation these days.... Cos the jobs have been taken over by China/Phillippines workers.

Nah. He must have owned a few cars, a few properties and a safe and secured job. That why he aint feeling any impact with mass migration yet. Probably he will feel it when he gets retrenched....

And why shouldn't they?
If foreign workers can do your job and are willing to do it for less, maybe you are overpaid and maybe you need to moderate your expectations.
if you think you have better skills than these foreigners, then perhaps your job does not require your higher skills. if the job can be done by a foreign graduate with lower skills, it is natural for bosses to employ foreigners. it will be more cost effective and will hold down prices for consumers.
Workers in china can and do make fake watches that sell for $20 a piece. But skilled Swiss watchmakers are not jobless because there are people who are prepared to pay $200,000 a piece for Patek watches. If you want a higher salary and keep your job, you have to be able to do more than the foreigner and produce a service or product for which people are willing to pay a higher price.

The same questions I ask myself.
The basic premise of a home is to provide safety, security and protection for it's occupants.
What good is it when you see half of your family members being replaced by strangers with the same skill sets? ![]()
So after 1-2 generations, are you going to accept these strangers into your family? ![]()
What good is the head of the household if he can't provide safety, security and protection for it's occupants? ![]()

Do you even know who fall into the range of Expats? Do you even know the difference between an Expat and Foreign Talent?
Anyway, there's a difference between them and it's up to you to find out and realise how stupid you are. I don't like to spoon-feed stupid people like you.
And did you include construction workers and domestic maids in your reply? Let me guess, you are stupid?
It's true that at the present, foreign workers hired in Singapore are much hard-working and capable than Singaporeans, and of course there are also incapable foreign workers who were hired because their employers were cheap-skates.
Part-time jobs are available everywhere and you don't know because you don't work part-time.
Don't blame me for being outdated if you have poor comprehension of what I have wrote. And you are just terribly retarded if you even think you are capable enough to reply to my post with your below-average ability.

You have neglected social security.
If people do not have jobs, what would they do? First, ask for financial assistance.... More taxpayers' monies to be spent helping on Singaporeans who cant find jobs... Secondly, if they cant be helped... they go around snatching... fighting and rioting....
We will go all the way back to the 1960s...
Is this what you want Singapore to become?
come on lah don;t talk about what china fake watches and use those faking forging skill to come here compare lah. i seen companies all hire floor traps and pee arse. hardships they probably had not endured NS what hardships. hang some money in front of my face what ever hardship who cannot face even singaporeans can face. thoise floor traps just dangle 1sgd they happy like fook and wag tail like dogs of course can edure hardship lah. now outpopulation 5million are we replacing ourselves?
come on our major weakness is we do not have natural resources and really i hop the guys in white can look intoo this problem and expand our land. they do that they will have my admiration.
one company i know all floor traps and turncoat peearse. only a few top people sgreans. look what happen to them. selling only peanust tjings barely able to manage the existing customers. and when things cock up (belief me in mancs such things should not even happen so simple to deal) the reasons they give are so damn stupid, like kids shooting marbles. no wonder all their businesses shift to cheapo jb
