SINGAPORE : The trial against former Netball Singapore president Ivy Singh-Lim resumed in court on Wednesday.
Her 4-hectare farm, Bollywood Veggies, located at 100 Neo Tiew Road in Kranji, is facing two charges of failing to appoint an engineer to run safety checks on its buildings, despite three reminders.
Her lawyer, Senior Counsel Engelin Teh, is arguing for the charges to be dropped, claiming the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) was singling Bollywood Veggies out for prosecution while other farms there were illegally operating and occupying their premises without the proper permits.
But District Judge Jasbendar Kaur on Wednesday ruled that Ms Teh's claim is not something for the district court to decide.
She said any claims of authorities abusing their power or contravening
other people's constitution rights can only be argued before the High
Court in a Judicial Review.
On the fourth day of the trial, Miss Teh challenged a BCA senior
executive engineer that the notices the BCA had issued to Bollywood
Veggies asking for compliance with the safety checks were invalid.
The hearing continues on Thursday.
